WHY the Gypsyland theme?

It’s been a long, sometimes difficult road to get here and no matter the pot holes, detours or near miss accidents that have presented themselves along the way, we refused to give up!

Never lose sight of your dreams, don't let anything stand in your way and keep believing!

If you can dream it, you can do it!

HOW did we begin?

We were stopped in our tracks whilst walking through a maze of colour, culture and surprise in an outdoor market in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Four blind men busking, playing ukulele inspired the vision for a busking festival and the flight home to Australia saw a plan written on the back of a cereal box. We were determined to turn the buskers dream into reality and the rest is history!

The inaugural festival in 2014 saw 114 performers strut their stuff creek-side in Currumbin, Gold Coast. Over the next six years the line-up and festival grew off the charts and in 2019 over 20,000 festival goers tipped the hats and guitar cases of over 300 talent. We were faced with new challenges (we won't mention the 'c' word) after moving the festival to higher ground on the Sunshine Coast in 2020. The most difficult was the need to move to a ticketed event model in order to help meet ever growing costs, as it was always our mission to keep the festival free entry so the buskers income wasn't impacted - they're only paid by the tips from our crowds. In saying that, we've worked extremely hard to keep the ticket prices rock bottom so you can bring an extra stash of cash to share amongst your favourites.

We can't wait to celebrate our 10th anniversary with you and thank you for continuing to support the creative industries!
